Have you been given more thought to how your association is impacted by the world around you? Or is someone else in your association (perhaps a Board member) advocating that the association should engage more with your industry or profession’s international community? This doesn’t have to be a difficult or cost prohibitive process. Those who have done it will tell you that one of the keys is to start slowly, using your existing networks, and then build on your success.
In this month’s issue of the FORUM I was able to highlight work the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the American Society for Quality (ASQ) have done in engaging with China. The lessons they have learned and shared can also be applied to other countries, as well as the general progression of your association becoming more internationally aware and engaged. I hope you will read the article and then share some of the thoughts that might occur to you in reading about the experiences of AAP and ASQ, or share some of your own experiences. Any "Ah-ha" moments you can pass on?
