A few additional thoughts to get you started:
- You probably already have members who are active politically, as well as others who are interested, if not active, in politics. Obviously, this is a great place to start in building an association's advocacy program. Identify and receruit these members, as team leaders, instructors, mentors, and evangalists.
- Consider a callout, especially aimed at those who are young members, or those not involved in the organization, to expand the base of advocates.
- Keep in mind that many different skills are useful in advocacy, and there is room on the team for members with diverse contributions.
- Develop some "light" material to use as training and leave-behinds. Avoid dense, fact-filled papers, in favor of brief brochures that convey general themes about your organization and issues. There is always an opportubity to go deeper when needed, but you ar better to start off in a more inviting manner.
