How can you assess the quality of the content on your Web site? Here are seven quick tests from www.webpagecontent.com that you can use on every Web page you write or edit to judge the effectiveness and impact of your Web content.
The 3-second test. What am I looking at? Can your site visitor catch the gist of a page after looking at it for 3 seconds, and without scrolling? The ID test. Is it obvious whose site this is and where the owners can be contacted? The accessibility test. Can every visitor get the essential information from your Web site regardless of their Web abilities, power of their computers, speed of their modem, type of browser or preferences? The “yeah, right!” test. Can I trust you? How smart are you? How timely is this information? The “so-what?” test. Are you talking to me? Why should I care? And, is it obvious what I’m supposed to do next? The serenity test. Does the page look uncrowded and well-organized? Does the very appearance of the page make me feel confident and calm about the content I am reading? The found-in-space test. Can I find this page by using a common search engine or directory?
Chances are, if you pass these tests, you will have many return visitors to your Web site.
